messing around

I was curious if I was recording my experiences of my internship in a book how its pages will look. So, i just experiment a bit wigth my images and the font and try several styles.

Amy Stevenson

When I first met Amy, I knew that I would have some great time with her. She is an enjoyable and kind person and always willing to help you. These beautiful aspects of her character are reflected on her designs. Her collection is minimalictic but when her models walked down in the show, it got everyone's attention.
Amy's pathway is menswear and in her own words, mens' clothing have details that you womenswear don't have and she advised me that if I choose womenswear in the future I can apply my menswear' knowledge into womenswear. I really looking forward to try it, it will be very interesting.

Her theme was transformation and she played with shapes and with some nice prints. Her main colours are grey, white, blue and yellow. They are simple but structured, and they are recognisable from their geometric shapes. It's more sportwear but as what I like to say it, is an elegant sports clothing. There even a coat that you can transform it to a bag and trust me, it's amazing! Her ideas and concept behind her final project are very clever and as a result she made some very innovative designs. Amy Stevenson is a name that you will hear it very often in the future, because I am absolutely sure, she will be succesful.

There are more to come!

The road to Truman Show

Despite the fact that the External show is in a few weeks we are working in a chilling mood. There is no pressure, just joy. We are having fun during this small journey and try to enjoy it to the maximum. Amy did two fittings until now with toiles only and she just had to make some small alternations to her bomber jacket. It was quite small and she also added some length. There are pieces of foam inside it, which i cut them in geometrical shapes- as the whole collection is distinguished by its minimal design and geometric patterns and shapes- and it looks great. Yesterday, I started cutting the real fabrics and I'm really looking forward to see the final garments. She send me to Shepperd's Bush today and I bought some blue cotton that will be the lining of her trousers. I was a bit scholastic as I wanted to find the perfect shade to combine it with her blue print. In the afternoon, I made research for her, from where she can buy the shoes she needs in a good price, and I did that task with success!

The day after the show

Today it was a day off for all of us but I was really anxious if Amy made it for the Truman Show. That's why I was checking every hour the announcements on our blog. After a long wait, they finally put the names on and Amy was in! I was so happy for her and I instantly congratulate her as she was really deserved it to get in. She is a hard worker with original ideas and she also really wanted it. I can see the positive thinking had a result. Now what she has to do, is to discuss in her tutorial which other 3 outfits is gonna made, as she needs to show 6 outfits in the external show, and go back to work as usual. I'm really looking forward to carry on. Also another 3 designers that I dressed their model passed and I was happy about them as I am always bond with anything i'm in charge for! But objectively speaking they had some really great designs.

Internal Show: The Backstage

I went from 8 am in the University to give a hand of help to organise the backstage. I started by bringing some rails from the studios to the College building so we can hang the outfits and later on the tutors organise which designers each model is gonna have. I also offered to be a dresser and my model was Michelle, she was really cooperative and made my life easier during the changes in the show. I had 18 outfits and I was a bit panicked at first as I was scared how I will manage my time.

But I discussed and with the other dressers as they share the same fear and we told each other how we are going to organise the outfits and that was really helpful. Some designers came during the show to help us and I was glad about it because I had some very complicated outfits, especially my last one. The dress was beautiful but it was messed up and things got difficult and people were coming to help me but noone could find how it goes but fortunately the designer came and fix it. I was so relieved! I managed though, to find time to unchange my model, dress her into the next outfit, prepare the next one while shes was walking and tide the previous ones and take some photographs! It's a miracle!

The night before the show

Such a long night! The studios were closing at 11 pm that day and we stayed until the very end of it. The studios were so hot and anyone that wasn't using the sewing machine or the ironing board was outside in the pots and working, including me. It didn't really bother me as I appreciate  Amy and I wanted to stay and give her my support and make her think positive. I had some handstiching; I did the hemline of the sleeves of her massive white t-shirt, I passed some drawstring in her jacket(which is converted into a bag) and I also typed in the instructions of how each outfit will be worn and appear on the catwalk.

3 Days before the show

Yesterday was such a long day! In the morning we had a final line up and everything looked great and after this Amy send me out to get a grey piping, a grey strap for the bag and three garment bags.

Firstly I went to Finchley in the store 'Finishing Touches' but I only found the piping so I had to travel to Shepperd's Bush to get the strap. I've lost my way somewhere in Finchley and then I saw a bus that was going to Tottenham Court Road and I jumped in and I managed to go to the station later and get the central line. I searched for a specific stall that sells trimmings but I unfortunately they didn't have the colour that I was searching for. Although, I did my damage before I left from there, I threw down a basket full of ribbons and I was chasing them to put them back but at least the owner didn't get upset, she only laughed with my clumsiness. At the end of the day, I found the appropriate grey strap and from a shop that I've been before but I've never noticed they were selling trimmings. I learned something new as well.

Later on, I went to 'Morplan' and got the garment bags and besides the delay in the underground I returned successfully and Amy was satisfied with everything.

Today, it was a bit relaxing for me in comparison with yesterday. I started by cleaning a fabric then I sewed the buttons in the two shirts, did a hemline again because she alternetate the trousers and made them shorter.I also cut the fabrics for the bag and the i-pad case and put masking tape in 3 pairs of shoes so Amy can return them after the show. Then I was dismissed and I'm back to work tomorrow morning again!
